Request for the entry of aircraft, equipment and personnel from other States to engage in search for aircraft in distress of to rescue survivors of aircraft accidents should be transmitted to Korea Coast Guard.
The SAR service and facilities in the Republic of Korea are available to neighbouring states upon request. All facilities are specialized in SAR techniques and functions.
When ATS facility has reason to believe that an aircraft in a state of emergency, it will alert and notify it to RCC and an ATS facility will support it. When the location of a civil aircraft which has crashed on land is known, NFA and the local governments take responsibility for dealing with the incident. When crashed on ocean the Korea Coast Guard takes responsibility.
Procedures for pilot-in-command observing an accident or intercepting distress call and/or message are outlined in the Annex 12 to Convention on International Civil Aviation.
Transmission and reception of distress message within the search and rescue area are handled in accordance with VolumeⅡ of Annex 10. For communications during search and rescue operations, the Codes and abbreviations published in DOC 8400 are used.
The search and rescue signals to bel used are those prescribed in ICAO Annex12, Chap 5, para 5.10
